About

Marcos S. Scauso is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Marcos Scauso holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine. His research lies at the intersection of International Relations and decolonial/pluriversal approaches from Latin America. On one side, he studies intersectional legacies of colonialism in the foreign policy of the USA towards Latin America. On the other side, he seeks to understand how some political movements aim to overcome and/or resist these ongoing forms of oppression through relational, decolonial, and pluriversal ways to sustain a world of many worlds. He has directed research documentaries about Indigenous activisms in Argentina and Bolivia, which inspired his recent book. Intersectional Decoloniality: Reimagining IR and the Problem of Difference builds on extensive fieldwork in Bolivia to discuss Indigenous voices that provide new pathways for reimagining how we conceptualize the problem of difference in International Relations, the continuing impact of colonial legacies, and the prospects for intersectional peace and coexistence. He has analyzed these issues through interpretive lenses that reach the epistemic dimensions of politics, contributing to discussions of methodologies in International Relations, for example, in his article “Interpretivism: Definitions, Trends, and Emerging Paths.”
