About
Sanaa Alazab is the founder of the School in Gaza (SIG), a grassroots initiative established in Deir al-Balah in 2024 that provides displaced students with access to learning, meals, and emotional support. She is also the official representative for Vigils for Humanity (USA) in Palestine.
She is an educator and researcher currently completing an MA in Education and Leadership at Durham University, where she is a recipient of the Durham Palestine Educational Trust (DPET) scholarship.
Her work focuses on education in crisis contexts and the role of research and knowledge engagement in supporting communities affected by conflict. Her MA dissertation examines learning loss and disrupted transitions from secondary to higher education among students in Gaza following the genocide.
Before relocating to the UK, she worked as a teacher, mentor, writer, and translator. Her work is shaped by both academic research and lived experience, and she is particularly interested in developing educational interventions that support teachers and strengthen education systems in conflict-affected contexts.
