About

Rirhandu is a political scientist whose interest in international politics has led her to professionally speak, teach and conduct research in many different parts of the world. As an internationally active scholar with a pronounced regional expertise, Rirhandu’s involvement in transdisciplinary research contexts has contributed to her teaching, collection of publications and the assumption of leadership positions in professional associations.

She is currently a Professor in Peace and Development Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Prior to this, she held the Chair for International Gender Politics at the University of Kassel (Germany), she was an interim Professor in Political Studies at Giessen University (Germany), researched and taught at Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany as well as a Guest Professor of International Development at the University of Vienna (Austria).

Rirhandu studied at the Goethe University Frankfurt, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Cape Town (South Africa). Her international experience includes extended periods abroad among them as a guest researcher at Syracuse University (USA), Stellenbosch University and University of South Africa (South Africa), Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and the University of Rwanda (Rwanda).
